OK 18 Deep Fork Canadian River Bridge

This bridge, located south of Chandler in Lincoln County on OK 18, crosses the Deep Fork River. It was built in 1933 by J. W. Hopper.

The bridge consists of a main steel span of 140 feet, and two steel stringer approach spans. Total length of the structure is 213 feet.

The concrete guards on the approach spans are unaltered and are of the 'fence' style that was popular in Oklahoma from the 1920's to the 1950's. In the 1930's, when this bridge was built, the fence rails had two horizontal rails, and vertical posts with a panel detail; you can see this more clearly in the photo below.

Here is a side shot of the truss span. The bridge has a posted limit of 18 tons, likely due to the condition of the concrete deck. The bridge was originally constructed with knee braces in the portal corners.
